#1 Maxx Levell Engine Damage...ewwww...lol
Here are some pics of some damage that occurred weekend before last. I was rolling out of the burnout when bang!!!...and then quiet lol. A big fireball rolled out of my cowl and the headers as well. I've been out of town with work, and just got the chance to tear into it to see what happened...well, I knew what had happened because the head of an exhaust valve was laying on the track under the car lmao...I just didn't know how bad the block/head/piston damage was. Well...now I know :) Thinking nows as good a time as any to change to a 351 based combo...

Haven't pulled anything else yet, but the pushrods and rockers all looked good. I doubt there's any damage to my roller cam. I'll get the head dropped off sometime here soon and get it redone, and then I think I'll swap my heads and cam over to a late model 351 block for now, then do a 351 based stroker in the future. Also pick up a 351 Victor Jr intake, a front sump pan for the 351, and a new distributor. Notch the towers, shoehorn it in there lol. Anything else I'm overlooking? Anyone have a roller type 351 they're wanting to sell?

Wow, always hate to see that. Will the new engine be with a factory or aftermarket block?

Ouch that hurts, just curious, do you know what brand of valves they were?

Whatever comes in AFR's...I've been told Manleys, but really have no idea. I wouldn't hesitate to put Manley's back in...so... Probably just a factory block...not sure what the aftermarket ones run...but I'm guessing more than I want to spend right now lol. I'd rather spoil the grandkids with it ;)

I had a valve spring issue a little while back, and am leaning towards possible weakening or damage occurred then, but, who knows. I expected to see a keeper or retainer failure when I removed the valve cover...but everything was intact. The rockers were all still on, pushrods in place, and all pieces were where they were supposed to be lol. The head of the valve just snapped off. I had Lem Evans (of BF Evans Ford, and Big Block Ford's site contributor) take a look at it, and he even said it could just be a bad batch of valves. He said where it broke off is precisely where they weld the stem to the valve head, so who knows. One piece valves will be going back in!

It happens with racing junk. I don't baby it, and won't baby it when I get it back together lol. I built it to run hard, and that's what I intend to do. The timing could have been a little better . Tomorrow night is another DOT tire race! I'm now without a ride :p I'm still planning on going and watching my buds though

Well, dropped the head off at the machine shop this morning. Should have a chance to tear down the rest of the engine this weekend. Possibly may just sleeve the block if possible to finish out the year. Not sure yet...just depends on the severity of the damage.

I'll know more after I get everything apart and get eyes on it.
